“Today I went on the open day tour of the wonderful Pope’s Grotto. I have been down there many times before from the very beginning of the campaign to save and restore it. When the stones, minerals and crystals were coated in centuries of grime with only a bare light bulb to find your way. Now it sparkles as Pope would have seen it and little sconces dotted around create a welcoming atmosphere. The hard work and fund raising is all down to a few people who tirelessly fought with passion and drive. And here it is. One of Twickenham’s most treasured possessions. If you get a chance to go on a tour, then do as there are only a few each year.”
