Open Days & Guided Tours
Pope’s Grotto Trust organises over 30 Open Days throughout the year in partnership with Kneller Hall School, the owners of the Grotto.
When you visit us you will be able to walk through the Grotto and explore the atmospheric chambers which Alexander Pope created over 20 years and admire its river setting which was so inspirational to the poet.
This year (2026), in addition to our Grotto Open Days, we will be running another seven of our popular Guided Landscape Tours of Strawberry Hill Garden and Pope's Grotto, starting in April. We are also offering three joint tours of the Grotto, St Mary the Virgin Church (where Pope is buried), Marble Hill House and Marble Hill’s newly-restored grotto.
Entry to all our events is by pre-booked ticket only.
We occasionally offer tours of up to 25 people out of school hours or in the school holidays. These tours are arranged by prior arrangement and the minimum donation for these is £100 to cover our expenses and the school’s overtime costs. Please contact us for more information.
The grotto is in Kneller Hall School. Directions are on the Getting Here page.
Tickets are now on sale for Grotto visits up to June. You can be amongst the first to be notified of future events by signing up to our email list. Landscape and joint tours with other sites in the area are also now on sale through TicketSource.
Please be aware that access to the Grotto is via an outdoor staircase and there are several different levels throughout the site. There is no disabled access. The lighting inside the Grotto is subdued, and care when walking through the Grotto is required.
