Gift Acceptance policy

The purposes of the Trust are to:

• Support the restoration, conservation and maintenance of Alexander Pope’s Grotto in Twickenham
• Promote interest in and knowledge of the Grotto and its significance in local and national history
• Raise funds in support of the above objects

To further our mission, the Trustees accept charitable gifts from donating parties under strict guidelines.

Gifts may be presented to the Trust as:

• Cash sums (either in full or as pledged payments)
• Legacy gifts and life insurance policy disbursements
• Gifts in kind

The Trustees will refuse any gift, financial or otherwise, that we believe is incompatible with our mission or charitable purposes.

Gifts that are prohibited by the Trustees include:

• Revenue generated in whole or in part from an activity that involved criminality, fraud, or the evasion of taxation
• Gifts for which a service is expected or implied in return
• Gifts for which there are conditions attached that cannot be met through the activities and processes of the Trust or its Trustees
• Items of national and/or international historical importance for which the ownership may be disputed
• Any other gift for which ownership or legality could be disputed

These guidelines are intended to provide general guidance. They are not inclusive or exhaustive and are subject to change at the discretion of the Trustees at any time.
