Happy Birthday Mr Pope!

21 May 2026 - News

On 21st May, Alexander Pope’s birthday, a small gathering of trustees, patrons, volunteers and supporters of our project gathered in the Grotto to reveal his birthday present.

In January, we commissioned a portrait bust of Pope from Steven Dey of ThinkSee3D. Our bust is a 3D-printed copy of the British Museum’s, which is itself a plaster copy of an original terracotta bust by Louis-François Roubiliac in the Barber Institute of Fine Arts in Birmingham. It is mounted on a Bath stone plinth and is 4’6” high – exactly the same height as Pope.

The picture shows Twickenham M.P. Munira Wilson with the newly-revealed bust at the North end of the cross-passage.
